Splashing the RCB in last match because of splash batting by Steve Smith and James Faulkner, Rajasthan Royals will be in search of 7th win in an encounter with Chennai Super Kings in today’s match. RR has won 6 out 9 matches played and are on number 3 on the points table with 12 points. While CSK,the 2 time champion, with 14 points is at number 2 position. So, it will be a very interesting match because RR will try to snatch the 2nd position from CSK, while CSK will try to maintain its position.
CSK has always been better side since it is under the captaincy of one and only Mahindra Singh Dhoni. In this edition of Pepsi IPL 2014, Chennai Super Kings has been unbeaten by every team except Kings Eleven punjab who has defeated it twice in the event. In both defeated games they still batted very well making a lot of runs. The good thing with CSK is that they play cohesively. The burden is not on a single player while every batsman from Dwayne Smith to MS Dhoni is contributing its share. Dwayne Smith is the leading run-scorer from CSK and 2nd in the event after Glenn Maxwell of KXIP. Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum have made 396 and 327 runs respectively with 8 half-century partnerships between them. Raina and du Plesis are also contributing when needed. Dhoni, the best finisher, never misses any opportunity and shows off the one man show in later part of the game.
In bowling side, Mohit Sharma and Ben Hilfenhaus are doing just with the pace and picking up the wickets at right time while the spin combination of R Ashwin and R Jadeja is also restricting the opposition. Pandey, in spite of not having a lot many wickets, is bowling on tight line and length. Ashwin and Jadeja have proved very economical with an economy under 8 while Hilfenhaus’s economy rate is what CSK needs to be fear about. The part-timers Raina and Smith are also proving very dismaying because they are conceding a lot of runs.
Although having no big name of t20 in the squad, RR is yet at the 3rd position on points table due to the hard work of Shane Watson and its team. After losing 5 wickets at 105 in 14 overs against RCB, no one was hoping the win of RR, but the thriller from Steve Smith and James Faulkner snatched the victory from CSK with 1.1 overs spare. So, the confidence level of RR today is high and they will expect from the couple the same inning. But they will be worry as they failed in a chase of 135 against SRH. So, Shane Watson himself will have to show some exceptional innings.
RR is doing impressively with the bowl as they have restricted tthe oppositions a lot of times under 150. Shane Watson is showing his potential with the bowl as well and has been very economical. Richardson and Faulkner have been a bit expensive but they are good with wicket taking. 42 year Tambe has troubled the opposition batsmen with his impressive spin bowling. Other bowlers will also try to do the best in this vital match.
This will be completly one of the biggest thriller of Pepsi IPL 2014 and will be a game of nerves anyhow RR will make more effort to achieve 2nd position on the front. The chance of win for both the teams will be 50% anyhow RR may take the lead in my opinion.
